Fast-growing corporate and commercial law firm gunnercooke has augmented the growth of its London office with the hire of four new partners. Corporate heavyweights Tim Drake, Matthew Searle and Alistair Crellin have joined the firm, along with leading tax expert Peter Davis. The firm, which was founded in 2010 by Darryl Cooke and Sarah Goulbourne, launched its London office at the end of 2012.
The new hires are the latest in an ambitious recruitment drive for gunnercooke, which only employs partner-level solicitors with a minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience, charges on a fixed-fee basis and prides itself on providing commercial and strategic expertise to its clients alongside traditional legal advice. The Firm’s model has been gaining significant traction with both clients and lawyers alike, including recognition at The British Legal Awards 2012 as ‘Most Innovative Law Firm’.
Mr Drake was previously an equity partner at M.J. Hudson, with a particular focus on secondaries deals; the buying and selling of fund interests and their interests in portfolio companies.
Matthew Searle has left his position as head of the corporate team at South West firm Adams and Remers LLP, where his notable deals included the sale of Patisserie Valerie restaurant group to Luke Johnson (Risk Capital Partners).
Alistair Crellin was previously a partner at Bird and Bird and Pinsent Masons. He is a widely regarded expert in corporate law, with a particular interest in the renewables sector. Mr Crellin has advised on significant deals including the construction of the £250m Lowry Centre in Salford development set up and structuring of private equity house Hudson Clean Energy and its initial $1bn fundraise.
Peter Davis who joins as a Tax Partner, has previously held partner positions at K&L Gates, Farrer and Co and Allen and Overy. He has a wealth of expertise in both domestic and cross border transactions.
Speaking on the new hires, founder Darryl Cooke said: “London is a significant driver of growth for us as a business. Though Manchester will always be our administrative hub, London is quickly becoming viewed as our head office. I am delighted to welcome the new partners to gunnercooke and look forward to working with them in cementing our position in the city and building a platform capable of growth on an international scale.”
