Colin McKnight

Dispute Resolution Specialist

Colin is a commercial litigation solicitor with more than 25 years’ experience in a wide range of commercial and civil disputes, including contract, negligence, partnership and shareholder disputes, civil fraud, real property and conversion, through litigation, mediation and arbitration. He has acted for individuals and companies of varying sizes, resident in the UK and abroad, in both claimant and defendant capacities, with claims worth up to £70 million.

  • Representing the main defendant (part of the largest stainless steel recycling group in the world) in proceedings alleging conversion of stainless steel beer kegs, worth about £70m, belonging to the five largest UK brewers.
  • Representing one of three siblings in a long running partnership dispute where the partnership was then dissolved and the considerable assets had to be divided. The assets were transferred to my client and a dispute that had dragged on for about 8 years finally came to an end.
  • (In the initial stages of the claim), representing Crockfords Casino, where the poker player, Phil Ivey, alleged it had failed to pay his “winnings” of about £7m. Crockfords’ defence was successful in trial, which attracted a large amount of media interest.
  • Taking over a case about 6 weeks before it was due in the Court of Appeal and resolving it. The amount of the settlement was the same sum as allegedly agreed on a handshake in a farmer’s field many years previously, despite substantial costs having been incurred.
