Gavin is an experienced restructuring and insolvency lawyer with over 30 years of experience in the sector. He is dual qualified having passed the JIEB insolvency examination in 1997 and has held an insolvency practitioner licence since 1998.

  • Leading major assignment advising Official Receiver relating to a short period of trading prior to closure in compulsory liquidation of SSI Steelworks in Redcar (45 fee earners involved across the firm).Project management across numerous practice areas.Regular contact with senior management of Insolvency Service/BIS/ HCA and other government departments. Reported case law on s233 Insolvency Act 1986 within two weeks of implementation of new law
  • Acting for head office in relation to national firm of IPs/LPA receivers following a block hostile removal of fixed charge receivers
  • Acting for administrators of Big 4 firm of accountants in relation to trading administration of carpet textile manufacturer
  • Acting for NW based company JV with Taiwanese based conglomerate first to defend threatened winding up proceedings, then negotiating and implementing settlement and demerger of group in Europe and Far East
  • Acting for specialist investigative IP on challenge to use of EBT to shelter funds from tax on business sold in 1999.CFA with 75% uplift- successful outcome
  • Technical advisory to several IVA management companies in relation to category 1 disbursements
  • Advisory work to main expense creditor/supplier in relation to protection of position following placing of IVA factory firm into administration
  • Advising leading ABL group in relation to closure of group company following trading losses- MVL strategy
  • Acting for recovery team of main clearing bank in urgent out of hours hostile administration over North Wales hotel following health and safety breaches, then acting for appointed IP firm
  • Acting for administrators of London firm on a claim against directors on a preference/misfeasance claim
