Lorna Trueman is an experienced contentious probate and commercial dispute resolution lawyer.

In her contentious probate practice Lorna supports clients in dealing with a range of matters including, but not limited to, 1975 Act claims, proprietary estoppel claims, invalid will claims, trust disputes and probate fraud claims.

She has specialised in contentious probate for many years and became a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS) in 2017. ACTAPS provides a forum for contentious probate specialists, promoting the enhancement of specific skills, specialisations and expertise in contentious probate. Lawyers must demonstrate considerable expertise and knowledge of the law and practice to be permitted entry as a member.

In addition to her contentious probate practice Lorna has almost 20 years of experience in dealing with heavyweight, high value and complex commercial dispute resolution cases. This type of work forms a large part of Lorna’s practice, and she regularly assists her clients in dealing with contract disputes, shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, professional negligence, agency disputes and property related disputes.

Her commercial clients range from FTSE100 companies and large corporations to owner managed businesses.

Experience Highlights

  • Acting in an IT dispute, in the TCC, concerning case management systems worth £1.2 million on behalf of a FTSE 100 company
  • Advising a number of clients in the recovery of uninsured losses caused by a gas explosion which destroyed their business premises. The claim involved multiple defendants and complex issues in relation to liability and quantum.
  • Advising a commercial client in defending a claim against an insurer who had tried to avoid a professional indemnity insurance policy. The claim was worth in excess of £12million and was settled favourably for the benefit of the client.
  • Acting for a nationally based property developer and investment company assisting them with a range of landlord and tenant and land related contentious matters but notably assisting them in pursuing a claim for liquidated damages in excess of £1million.
  • Acting in a complex Inheritance Act claim which involved the family of an internationally renowned president.
