Dispute Resolution and Charity Partner Khaled Moyeed has recently secured a major courtroom win in the Manchester High Court, overturning a wide-ranging injunction and obtaining rare indemnity costs, while also achieving the rapid three-day registration of a new London youth charity, Inspire Youth Organisation.
The two matters, though very different, highlight the breadth of Khaled’s work, combining high-stakes litigation with projects that create lasting community impact.
Manchester High Court: Injunction Set Aside with Indemnity Costs
In a striking ruling at the Manchester High Court, His Honour Judge Cawson KC (“HHJ Cawson KC”) set aside a wide-ranging injunction obtained by a solicitor (the “Applicant”) against Khaled’s client, a paralegal (the “Respondent”), holding that the application was misleading and procedurally flawed.
The case arose from a soured business relationship, where the Applicant, a solicitor with over 25 years’ experience, sought urgent injunctive relief without notice, alleging denial of access to her law firm’s premises and client files. Although the court initially granted the injunction, at the return hearings Khaled and his team successfully challenged it, securing not only its discharge but also indemnity costs, a rare and severe sanction reflecting the court’s disapproval of the Applicant’s conduct.
The background involved a December 2023 agreement to operate a law firm under the Applicant’s practising certificate with the intention of converting it into an Alternative Business Structure (“ABS”). The Applicant was to supervise the business for £5,000 per month and 30% of revenue, but after 17 months she had billed nothing for 11 months. When the Respondent and the Company alleged breach of contract and misrepresentation, the Applicant responded by securing a without notice injunction against the Respondent.
The injunction was exceptionally broad, demanding access to premises, client files, servers, passwords, and prohibiting client contact. Just hours before the first return hearing, the Applicant filed a new witness statement with fresh allegations, prompting Khaled to seek an adjournment, which was granted with an indemnity costs order.
At the adjourned hearing, HHJ Cawson KC concluded that he would not have granted the injunction had full information been provided. He found that the Applicant had misled the court by alleging the Respondent was misappropriating clients, which was untrue, and criticised the absence of a skeleton argument and hearing note from the without notice hearing. The judge discharged the injunction and ordered the Applicant to pay indemnity costs for both return hearings, sending a strong message that misleading applications and procedural shortcuts will not be tolerated.
Inspire Youth Organisation Registered in Record Time
Elsewhere, Khaled, alongside Trainee Solicitor Su Ozkan, successfully registered Inspire Youth Organisation, a newly established charity committed to supporting and uplifting young people across inner-city London. The registration was completed in just three days.
The charity aims to be a vital community resource, providing advice, mentorship, and structured educational, social, and recreational programmes tailored to the needs of young people aged 13–19. Its mission is to promote education, wellbeing, active citizenship, and family engagement in underserved communities, with all services being inclusive, culturally sensitive, and free at the point of delivery.
Programmes will include one-to-one mentoring, mental health and wellbeing seminars, CV-writing and careers clinics in partners universities, intercultural dialogue sessions, peer-led discussions on current affairs, structured help with physical activities such as team sports, and annual residential trips. Parents and carers will also be supported through safeguarding workshops and engagement evenings.
Abdullahil Mamoon Al-Azami, chair of the charity, commented: “We are incredibly pleased with the successful registration of Inspire Youth Organisation and very impressed that it took just three days. This is a significant milestone, and we look forward to creating meaningful change for young Londoners.”
Initially focusing on Tower Hamlets, Newham, and Hackney, Inspire Youth Organisation aspires to expand across London as it grows, backed by a dedicated team of trustees, youth workers, and volunteers.
