Environmental Crime Partner Dr. Anna Willetts appeared as an expert lawyer on Channel 4’s Dispatches’ undercover exposé of illegal waste sites, waste crime and fly tipping, broadcast on Friday 21st June.
“I act for business in the waste and resources sector, permitted and regulated,” says Anna, “who sometimes have issues with permit compliance, and it is an endless source of frustration to both them and me, that they are frequently targeted by the regulators for ‘waste crime’ when you see the huge scale of actual waste crime shown in this documentary, on an organised and well executed level.
“I hope this programme highlights where the real issues of waste crime lie, and where in my view, regulator efforts and resources need to be targeted. I was pleased to see the BBC reporting that the Welsh government has ordered an urgent review of the regulator’s lack of action at a site in Wales as result of the documentary.”
