gunnercooke wins at FT Innovative Lawyers Awards

October 17, 2022

gunnercooke has taken home the top award for ‘Business of Law: Challenging traditional models’ at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers: Europe 2022.  The firm was recognised for being the first major UK law firm to officially accept payment in cryptoassets, a move which was announced earlier this year. Cryptoasset exchange Coinpass partnered with gunnercooke to make the exchanges, the first of which was made by Attestant.

The judges marked gunnercooke 9 for originality, 8 for leadership and 6 for impact, with the Financial Times writing: ‘The firm acts for around 100 small company clients working in the blockchain and cryptoasset sector, and its model allows them access to legal advice they might not otherwise be able to afford.’

James Burnie FRSA, who hosts the firm’s Crypto Cast podcast, comments: “As someone who has worked in crypto and blockchain since the very early days, it is simply awesome to see a crypto innovation being recognised by the FT! The increasing recognition of and maturation of the crypto and blockchain sector, led by firms such as Attestant and Coinpass, in fantastic to see, and this award rightly recognises its position at the forefront of innovation.”

gunnercooke has built up one of the leading FinTech and Cryptoasset full-service practices with experts in the UK and Germany, including James Burnie FRSA and Wolfgang Richter. The team has a client base of over 100 cryptocurrency developers, platforms and exchanges.

This will be the 63rd award recognition for the firm, which won Law Firm of the Year at the Modern Law Awards 2022 and has been listed in The Times Best Law Firms.
