A transactional lawyer, with 30+ years’ experience practising business law across UK/Europe, CEE/SEE, MENA, Asia and emerging markets generally, Alex has been involved in the drafting and negotiation of a number of high-profile financings, many of which were “first-in-jurisdiction”, involving significant regulatory elements and dealings with governments and governmental agencies.

Alex has advised on 3,400+ transactions involving US$275+ billion of debt financing across 75+ jurisdictions around the globe. These have included corporate facilities, project/infrastructure finance, receivables financings, bond issues, private placements, securitisations, structured financings and leveraged/MBO financings.

Alex’s sector experience includes energy (oil and gas, upstream, mid-stream and downstream and petrochemicals), infrastructure and transport (airports, ports, railway and roads), power (coal and nuclear), public sector (education, healthcare, hospitals and social housing), renewables (co-generation, geothermal, hydro, nuclear, solar, waste-to-energy and wind) and waste and waste water.

Alex has an MBA (Finance) from Bayes Business School and, prior to qualifying as a solicitor, worked as an investment banker for a number of years in the City of London (HSBC, Robert Fleming and BAML).

Experience Highlights

  • Advising FundPark Limited on its US$250 million securitisation of receivables originated on its innovative FinTech platform with Goldman Sachs as arranger and senior funder
  • Advising China Development Bank as lead arranger on various credit facilities (in aggregate GBP10.5 billion) for part-financing the implementation of the GBP29+ billion Hinkley Point C nuclear new-build project in the UK
  • Advising Dover Harbour Board on the financing of the c.GBP250 million upgrade of the Port of Dover in the UK. This was the first transaction of its type in the UK Trust Port sector
  • Advising a major international developer as bidder on the acquisition financing of a bid for London City Airport that was sold for c.US$2.3 billion
  • Advising a UK listed company on its GBP625 million securitisation and RCF facilities
  • Advising RBS/Lombard on the structuring (following PPP principles), financing and implementation of Gibraltar’s primary dual-fuel power station, replacing a mix of aged oil-burning power generators
  • Advising a consortium of multi-lateral development banks on the debt financing of a c.US$250 million new-build marina, office, hotel, apartments and retail development in Aqaba, Jordan
  • Advising Arupa LOTOS on the debt financing of the c.US$2.9 billion upgrade and expansion of the Gdansk oil refinery
