Experience Highlights

  • SFO investigation against the Director of Amec Foster Wheeler. Instructed to represent a Director of Amec Foster Wheeler. The Serious Fraud Office alleged bribery and corruption spanning from 1996 to 2014 relating to the use of agents to secure lucrative contracts in Iraq, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, India and Brazil. Deferred Prosecution Agreement entered into amounting to £103 million, which forms part of a global settlement with the UK, US and Brazilian authorities of $ US$177 million.
  • SFO investigation against the Director of Buy2Let Cars Ltd. The SFO investigation alleges that Buy2Let Cars Ltd offered investment in a fleet of popular cars from brands including Hyundai, Toyota and Vauxhall, to be bought and leased out to the public with the promise of high levels of returns. The scheme was widely marketed via a series of TV, radio and newspaper adverts, as well as at hotel conferences around the country. During the COVID pandemic, its cars were promoted as a safe way for key workers to get to work. Many of those who paid into the scheme were first-time investors, making a seemingly affordable and secure investment that was backed up by a tangible asset – a car. The defendants are accused of providing those who signed up with false information, encouraging people to pay in whilst knowing that investments were not, in reality, backed up by the cars they had been promised.
  • FCA investigation- Operation Gillingham. Instructed to represent the CEO of Worthington Group PLC (WRN) and its subsidiaries. The FCA’s investigation shows that a number of the claims made by the company were false and/or misleading and were issued for artificially inflating the share price for the benefit of a select group of those controlling the company, which in turn produced significant profits for those individuals when they liquidated part of their shareholdings.
  • Operation Adonis- Fraud investigation into activities of Base2Trade Ltd. Investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service-Specialist Fraud Division into the activities of Base2Trade Ltd, a company that claimed to invest in the binary options market. Initially, they received substantial returns on investments before suffering crippling losses. The identified loss to investors amounted to in excess of £4million.
  • Operation Rotunda-HMRC investigation into the tax affairs of Techonenic Ltd. It is alleged that the company falsified VAT returns, invoices, and company accounts, causing a loss to HMRC of £2.5million. Instructed to represent the Director of the company.
  • Operation Skittle- City of London Police Economic Crime Unit investigation into an ex-Bank of America employee who defrauded investors in excess of £1.5m. The investors believed they were investing in Bank of America portfolios and would receive substantial returns. Instead, their invested funds were used to support the Defendant’s lavish lifestyle.
  • Operation Hoard- Thames Valley police investigation into investment fraud and the subsequent laundering of the proceeds. Investors were encouraged to invest in companies which they believed were listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Invested funds were directed into several mule accounts before being withdrawn. The loss to investors is in excess of £1m.
