Tom is an experienced corporate lawyer, specialising in venture capital and technology M&A transactions.

Tom is hugely enthusiastic about technology and innovation, and deeply passionate about getting great ideas, great founders and great tech companies financed, supported and thriving.

Tom has extensive experience as a City of London solicitor at a major international firm. Initially carrying out a broad range of M&A transactions as a generalist corporate lawyer, Tom increasingly focussed his career advising on investments into high-growth tech companies. Tom joined gunnercooke in 2025 to focus solely on the venture capital sector.

Tom advises all stakeholders in the productive economy ecosystem, from VC funds and HNW business angels, to the founders and entrepreneurs who make things happen. Tom has a particular niche advising the growing number of Corporate Venture Capital investors. Tom is laser-focussed on ensuring all parties to a venture are fully aligned on maximising strategic success.

Tom has undergraduate degrees in both Artificial Intelligence and Law and spent his early career in software development. More recently Tom worked as a Senior VC Investment Manager at the British Business Bank, closing and managing direct investments for the British Government’s National Security Strategic Infrastructure Fund.

  • Making and managing numerous direct investments for the British Government’s National Security Strategic Investment Fund
  • Advising Experian Ventures on several strategic investments across EMEA, including into Konfir, Salary Finance and Cazana, and advising Experian plc on its acquisition of Castlight, divestment of FootFall and several other corporate transactions
  • Advising L&G on its co-lead investments into MoneyHub and Advanced Electric Machines
  • Advising the owners of Prepaid Card Services on their £226m exit to EML Limited
  • Advising YFM on its lead investments into DrDoctor and QualityClouds
  • Advising Boston Consulting Group on its acquihire of AllofUs Limited
  • Advising Location Sciences Group plc on its reverse takeover of Sorted Group
  • Advising Piclo on its £8.3m Series B, co-led by Eon’s Future Energy Ventures fund
  • Advising Agsenze on its Series A, co-led by Merck plc
    Advising Saudi Telecom group on the creation of its Corporate Investment Fund, before supporting several specific investments
  • Advising Kamco Invest on its strategic investment into Floward Holding
  • Advising IRIS Software Group on its acquisition of iSAMS
  • Advising University of Nottingham spin-out Romax Technology on its joint venture with Castrol/BP

 

Tom has also advised on numerous investment lifecycle issues, from planning interim as well as priced funding rounds to managing boardroom disagreements, carrying out legal health checks and dealing with arising commercial and governance issues.
