Sam joined the Bristol Litigation team in January 2022 as a Paralegal. Sam subsequently became a Trainee Solicitor in September 2023 and has recently passed SQE 1 in the Summer of 2024. Sam is an integral member of the Bristol Litigation team, managing both his own case load and more complex disputes alongside James Pheasant and James Tithecott. Sam’s disciplined and focused approach reassures clients and helps drive disputes towards commercially successful outcomes.

Sam’s workload is varied and has so far included High Court proceedings in relation to the validity and enforceability of third-party security granted over a client’s West-London property, the provision of advice and support in relation to a boutique hotel-chain during the onset of insolvency and obtaining strike out of a >£1m High Court claim on the first day of trial.

Sam is shaping his practice with a focus on directors’ duties and the associated shareholder, company and director claims; contractual disputes concerning breach of contracts, implied duties and repudiatory breaches; and property disputes including boundary disputes, enforceability of deeds / covenants, breach of lease terms and environmental disputes. Sam is also garnering experience in costs, having recently been involved in the successful published judgment in the Senior Courts Costs Office (SC-2022-APP-000305) regarding remuneration under the Solicitors Act and the scope of solicitors’ retainers.
