December 4, 2025

gunnercooke’s award-winning crypto team have achieved further success in the 2026 edition of Chambers’ FinTech Guide, with the firm securing three new practice area rankings and three individual rankings.

The new results highlight the firm’s increasing depth of expertise within the rapidly evolving FinTech sector, with the directory’s feedback highlighting that the team ‘know their stuff in terms of digital assets’.

gunnercooke is ranked as a firm for the first time across three areas: FinTech Legal (Band 5), FinTech Legal: Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies (Band 3) and FinTech Legal: Corporate, Securities & Financing (Band 3).

James Burnie continues to be recognised as an industry leader, having maintained his rankings: Band 3 for FinTech Legal and Band 1 in FinTech Legal: Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies. His work is highlighted for its innovation and contribution to shaping the UK’s digital assets framework.

Kathryn Dodds has been newly named as Up and Coming in FinTech Legal: Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies. This recognition reflects her growing reputation in high-value corporate and M&A transactions within the crypto and digital assets sector, including leading two of the most significant private M&A deals completed in the industry in the past year.

The team’s feedback from clients includes:

“They know the FCA guidelines inside out and provide fast execution on crypto and digital asset matters. They understand the different business models adopted by digital assets businesses in the UK.”

“James Burnie really knows his stuff in terms of digital assets. He is able to talk, not only a UK, but from a global perspective. Jurisdictional questions are very easy with him.”

“Kathryn Dodds is down to earth and approachable. She has a very good understanding of the corporate wrappers for decentralised autonomous organisations.”

“gunnercooke punches above its weight. The firm is very strong on DeFi, Web3 matters.”

The team have worked on leading matters in the past 12 months, including advising Bitwise Asset Management,  supporting Xapo Bank on a landmark partnership with Aston Villa and advising on the world’s first tokenized robo-farm.

The Chambers FinTech news follows gunnercooke’s recent Chambers UK guide success, in which 31 lawyers were recognised across 17 practice areas.
