March 23, 2026

gunnercooke is celebrating a double award shortlist today, having been named as a finalist at the 2026 Modern Law Awards, in the Law Firm of the Year (Large) category, as well as shortlisted in the Business Purpose Before Profit category at the UK Company Culture Awards.

The Modern Law Awards, sponsored by Clio, is run by Modern Law magazine and celebrates law firms, legal professionals and pertinent industry leaders.

The UK Company Culture Awards champion the organisations that put people first, where individuality is celebrated, growth is nurtured, and every voice matters. In the Business Purpose Before Profit Award, gunnercooke is up against Octopus Energy and Propellernet.

gunnercooke has now been recognised for over 110 industry awards, with wins including Leading with Purpose at the 2026 Business Culture Awards, and Law Firm of the Year at the British Legal Awards 2023. gunnercooke also took home the Law Firm of the Year prize at the 2022 Modern Law Awards.

In the past 12 months, the firm has grown significantly with five office moves and launches, including Chicago and Frankfurt, an additional office in London’s West End, and an upcoming move to a large new Global Headquarters in Manchester. Sons of the firm’s Founders, Ashley and Hayden Cooke, and James Goulbourne also joined as Chiefs of Staff in the firm’s move towards becoming a family-owned business.

Work included the landmark IP case WaterRower v Liking, advising Xapo Bank on its official partnership with Aston Villa, a groundbreaking pensions project on the UK’s only “superfund”, Clara Pensions, and advising on one of the UK’s most significant Web3 transactions; Bitwise Asset Management’s acquisition of Attestant Limited.

Founder Darryl Cooke commented: “Thank you to the Modern Law Awards and UK Company Culture Awards for recognising gunnercooke. In particular, the Purpose Before Profit Award is testament to the work we have been doing as a ‘deeply responsible business.’ It’s been a busy year for us with new offices, new faces, new systems and lots of quality work for our clients – congratulations to our wonderful team!
