gunnercooke Partner Michele Price has registered the Menopause Mandate as a ‘for purpose’ legal entity.

The Menopause Mandate was established to raise awareness of the inequalities faced by women during peri menopause and menopause. Michele advised on the most suitable legal vehicle to formalise the organisation while ensuring that it has the flexibility to campaign and respond to the growing public demand for action. She continues to advise the campaign as honorary counsel.

The news follows the announcement that gunnercooke Employment Partner Emma Hammond has been invited to join the Menopause Mandate.  As part of her role, she will sit on panels to discuss menopause in the workplace, having particular expertise in advising women facing menopause-related discrimination at work, which forms part of her pro-bono practice.

The campaign is led by Carolyn Harris, MP, along with other well-known names including Davina McCall, Mariella Frostup, Lisa Snowdon, and Penny Lancaster, working with support from menopause experts and GPs. It has some key aims; to improve education in healthcare on the menopause and remove the “postcode lottery” around accessing advice, to ensure that every GP practice has a Menopause Champion, and to make HRT affordable and available in order to remove the socio-economic barriers which currently affect whether or not a woman can access the medical advice and treatment that she deserves.

Michele commented: “Like many women I was surprised to discover that a period of health concerns was actually menopause related and I’ve been on my own journey to manage some less well recognised symptoms. It’s an honour to help the Menopause Mandate with their campaign, which has been a long time coming.”

Emma added: “I was delighted to be asked to be part of this fantastic team. We are finally starting to see discussion, training and support around the menopause joining the agenda in the workplace. Alongside some other fantastic women, I’ll be campaigning for better education and rights for employees who are going through the menopause and peri menopause.”
