Uliana is a dual-qualified English and Russian lawyer specialising in international arbitration. She has over a decade of experience in cross-border work. She helps clients with resolving disputes in both international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, and in the matters of enforcement of arbitral awards. She also has experience of obtaining interim relief in English courts, acting in complex parallel litigation and arbitration cases involving allegations of fraud, asset recovery and advising on public international law issues.

In addition to her practice as counsel, Uliana sits as an arbitrator and teaches international arbitration on the specialised LLM programme at Queen Mary University of London.

  • Acting for the Respondent in ICSID annulment proceedings, Masdar Solar & Wind Cooperatief U.A. v. Kingdom of Spain, ICSID Case No. ARB/14/1;
  • Acting for the Claimant in Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Ltd. v. Federal Republic of Nigeria;
  • Acting for the Respondent in Olympic Entertainment Group AS (Estonia) v. Republic of Ukraine (PCA Case No. 2019-18);
  • Acting for the Claimant in Scholz Holding GmbH v. Kingdom of Morocco, ICSID Case No. ARB/19/2;
  • Acting for the Claimant in A11Y LTD. v. Czech Republic, ICSID Case No. UNCT/15/1;
  • Drafting a new generation model bilateral investment treaty for a government and negotiating a bilateral investment treaty based on it with another government;
  • Acting for a Russian state-owned bank in a substantial arbitration against a refinery where the bank sought damages for non-performance by the refinery on a series of oil delivery contracts and related English court proceedings;
  • Acting for the respondent in a multi-million arbitration in the forestry sector which resulted in an outright win for the client on the points of law, obtaining a substantial award of security for costs and all adverse legal costs;
  • Acting for seven claimants in multi-million consolidated arbitration arising out of the break-up of the relationship between two prominent Israeli businessmen;
  • Representing a State in enforcement of arbitral award in England.
