Vitoria Nabas is a Partner at gunnercooke and a founding member of the firm’s Global Mobility & Immigration team. Known for her ability to cut through complexity and find practical solutions, Vitoria is the go-to adviser for businesses and individuals facing legal challenges that cross borders, jurisdictions, and disciplines.

What sets Vitoria apart is the sheer breadth of what she can resolve. Clients come to her with all manner of issues, from the straightforward to the seemingly intractable, and leave with clear, actionable answers. Whether the matter involves immigration, corporate structuring, international contracts, tax, property, probate, employment, or cultural and regulatory nuance, Vitoria has the knowledge, the network, and the experience to navigate it. No issue is too complex, and no combination of challenges too unusual.

With over 33 years of experience practising across Brazil, the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom, and with legal qualifications spanning three jurisdictions, Brazil, Portugal, and England & Wales, Vitoria brings a genuinely global perspective to every matter. Her career has taken her through leading law firms and financial institutions on three continents, including Machado Meyer, Demarest e Almeida, Banco Bozano Simonsen, and Sidley Austin in New York, before joining gunnercooke as a Partner in 2019.

Her clients range from multinational corporations and government agencies to charities, start-ups, entrepreneurs, expats, and private individuals. The issues she handles are equally varied:

  • Sponsor licences, work permits, visas, and immigration compliance
  • International relocation and global workforce expansion
  • Company formation and cross-border commercial contracts
  • Employment law and tax regulation across jurisdictions
  • Property law and private client matters
  • Cross-border probate and inheritance (UK and Brazil)
  • Risk management, investments, and regulatory compliance
  • Cultural and linguistic guidance for international transactions

Vitoria operates at the intersection of law, finance, language, and culture, making her uniquely effective for clients who need more than a single-specialism lawyer. She sees the full picture, speaks the language (often literally, she is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish), and connects the dots between disciplines that other advisers treat in isolation.

Her extensive international network reinforces this role. Vitoria is a Board Trustee at Canning House, a Councillor of the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, and Legal Counsel to the Colombian Consulate in London. She is Co-Founder of the Latin American Forum, the first private-sector, multinational initiative in the UK dedicated to strengthening ties between Latin America and the UK, as well as Co-Founder of Lex Anglo-Brasil and Law in Britain, and Founder of Nabas International Lawyers.

Vitoria holds an LL.B. from the Universidade de São Paulo, an MBA in Finance, and completed the Oxford Women’s Leadership Development Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

Her commitment to the profession extends beyond client work: she serves as a Student Supervisor at Queen Mary University’s Legal Advice Centre for over 16 years, a role for which she was honoured with a fellowship.

If you have a cross-border challenge, whatever it involves, Vitoria Nabas is the person to call.
